About
Explore Austin is a local non-profit that supports Austin youth through outdoor adventure activities and long-term mentorship. This summer, Explore Austin will send almost 200 Explorers and Mentors out across the US on Summer Wilderness Trips, unforgettable week-long journeys that allow underserved Austin youth to experience the natural world alongside trusted friends and trained guides. We need your help here in Austin this summer to ensure our teams depart and return smoothly and safely. There are several 2-hour volunteer shifts open this summer!

Available Volunteer Shifts (select whichever you prefer, as many or as few shifts as you'd like):
1. Gear checks (4 hours, split into two 2-hour shifts): These occur the day before our teams depart. We will size Explorers for outdoor gear, make sure their packs are complete and labelled, and secure any final paperwork needed from families.
2. Launch Days (2 hours): This is the day our teams depart! We'll meet at the KIPP Shed a few hours before heading off to the airport or loading up into the vans for our driving trips. Feel the excitement in the air as you help us double check our attendance and packing lists and solve any last minute problems that arise!
3. Receive Days (4 hours, split into two 2-hour shifts): Be there to welcome home our exhausted, smiling, (and maybe a little smelly) Explorer teams! Volunteer duties will include checking back in gear, and organizing and sanitizing it in preparation for our next groups.

Parking Details
All of the volunteer shifts will be located at the “KIPP shed,” a small building on the campus of KIPP Austin Academy of Arts and Letters. The KIPP shed has an Explore Austin sign on it and is right beside an outdoor basketball court. The GPS coordinates are (30°16'15.6"N 97°38'09.7”W)—you can put this directly into your GPS and it will take you there. Alternatively, you can navigate to “KIPP Austin Academy of Arts & Letters” at 8509 FM 969 Bldg 676, Austin, TX 78724, and you will pass by the KIPP Shed directly in front of the main school building. Parking is available beside the shed.
