About
This position is only available to volunteers who have already attended multiple sorting/agency shopping events and have knowledge in food safety and recue through the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. You will be notified within 1-2 business days after your application is submitted to determine if your application has been approved or declined.
The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia relies heavily on community partnered organizations (partner agencies) to distribute food. The Agency Shopping floor provides the opportunity for partner agencies to select specific product and foods to meet clients' needs from donations that have passed quality insurance and food-safety checks. During this event, volunteers will assist the manager of the Agency Shopping Floor, Cynthia, in whatever areas needed to provide an excellent Agency Shopping experience for our partner agencies. This volunteer position holds serious responsibility in providing a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for our agencies to shop.
Volunteers can expect to complete a variety of tasks including:
- Stocking shelves
- Sorting donations
- Sorting and stocking produce
- Stocking frozen meats
- Recycling cardboard
- Cleaning duties (dusting, sweeping, mopping)
- Assisting loading groceries into agency vehicles
Participants should expect to stand for the duration of the event and should be comfortable lifting up to 30lbs or more.
Volunteers must be 16 and older to attend volunteer events at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia.
As a reminder, we do not offer community service hours for volunteer work.
First-time volunteers should always review our Volunteer Page to review any updates and Covid-19 regulations, as well as to read through our Volunteer Handbook, which covers instructions for events, dress code, programs, and submit our New Volunteer Survey. This event is not open to minors (ages 16 and younger) at this time.
